Founders Role in a Decentralized or Teal Organization

Date: 23-08-2026

Founder Role in blockchain based Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO)

Founder → Gardener → Advisor

NOT

Founder → Lifelong Manager

The Gardener Mental Model

A gardener does not force plants to grow or control every leaf.

Instead, they:

  • Prepare the soil
  • Plant seeds
  • Water and nurture the ecosystem
  • Remove obstacles
  • Allow different plants to grow in their own way

Role of the Protocol Founder

Founder responsibility is to help the ecosystem grow without directly controlling it.

  • Write documentation
  • Provide treasury grants
  • Encourage contributors
  • Introduce builders to each other
  • Set standards and best practices
  • Resolve major coordination problems
  • Promote the project

Blockchains and Open Source are not a company

Blockchains and open source platforms are fundamentally different from traditional companies. A blockchain network is not a corporation with a headquarters, managers, and employees working under a centralized chain of command.

Crypto is not a job creator; it is a capital allocator, distributing funds from on-chain treasuries to independent contributors.

Crypto doesn’t create jobs—it allocates capital. It distributes treasury funds to independent workers instead of hiring employees.

Protocols and DAOs distribute treasury funds through grants, bounties, retroactive funding, staking rewards, and governance incentives.

Many contributors work independently rather than as employees.

Funding is often tied to contributions or ecosystem growth instead of a long-term employment contract.

Education DAO Example

It is not the founder’s role to teach 100 students.

Teaching is a full-time profession.

Instead, the founder should:

  • Build the educational infrastructure.
  • Distribute tokens and reputation.
  • Enable communities to coordinate themselves.

Token Distribution

Distribute governance power to:

👩‍🏫 Teachers

👨‍👩‍👧 Parents

🎓 Academics

🌐 Translators

🛠 Contributors

These stakeholders can then decide:

  • Which teachers should receive funding
  • Which educational projects deserve grants
  • Which curricula and tools should be prioritized

Founder Responsibilities

  1. Build Education DAO infrastructure.
  2. Codify best practices into on-chain and off-chain applications.
  3. Provide reference implementations and demo applications.
  4. Gradually reduce operational involvement.
  5. Transition from operator to advisor.

Build Infrastructure → Distribute Ownership → Enable Communities → Step Back

“A protocol founder plants seeds. The community grows the forest.”

Final Realization

Founder role is not to manage everything.

Founder role is to create systems that allow contributors to coordinate and govern themselves.

Once the ecosystem becomes community-controlled, the marketplace can evolve on its own.
