The Time for Foolishness is Over: Why Andrew Yang and UBI Are Our Only Way Forward

We have been fooled for far too long. For decades, the electorate has been handed a menu of political choices that ultimately serve the same broken system. We have been voting for grifters, scammers, and liars who promise change but deliver only more of the same. We asked for an affordable lifestyle, but instead, our money has been relentlessly siphoned upward to serve the top 1% of the population.

It is time for fair play. It is time for Universal Basic Income (UBI), and it is time to vote for Andrew Yang.

The Broken Economy and the Stagnant Wage

The current economy is completely broken. The fundamental promise that hard work leads to prosperity has been shattered. According to data from the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), from 1979 to 2020, net productivity rose by 61.8%, while the hourly pay of typical workers grew by only 17.5% after adjusting for inflation.

No matter how many hours you work, no matter how productive you become, your wages do not rise. The wealth you create is not going to you; it is being extracted. We need UBI to correct this historic injustice and ensure that the people who actually build the economy get to live in it.

The Myth of “Where Will the Money Come From?”

Critics of UBI immediately ask, “Where will the money come from?” This question reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of modern economics. They do not understand that money is a social construct, a shared fiction that we agree upon so that we can coordinate society. It is similar to our belief in institutions, or even our belief in God—it works because we collectively agree it works. Fiat currency has no intrinsic value; its value is derived entirely from our collective trust and the laws of the state.

It is not the mere supply of money that matters; it is its circulation. Wealth creation is not about the total amount of money available, but rather how many times a single bill changes hands. If a $100 bill circulates 10 times within a local community, it generates $1,000 in community income.

UBI boosts the economy precisely because of this “velocity of money.” Lower- and middle-income individuals have a high marginal propensity to consume. When they receive UBI, they spend it immediately on goods and services, directly supporting local businesses. Economic activity isn’t determined simply by the stock of money; circulation, spending, production, and productivity matter. If $100 is spent repeatedly on newly produced goods and services, it can support much more than $100 worth of economic transactions. UBI acts as a massive economic multiplier.

The Trillions for the 1%

Meanwhile, the federal government has no issue printing trillions of dollars out of thin air to provide money to billionaires and massive corporations. Through mechanisms like quantitative easing, corporate bailouts, and tax cuts, trillions have been funneled to the elite. Their debt keeps rising year about year—debt that they will never truly pay back—while the public is told there is “no money” for a basic income floor. We socialize the losses for the rich, but we are told to privatize the gains for the working class. This hypocrisy must end.

The Cruelty of the Shareholder Economy

This dynamic is exacerbated by the modern shareholder economy, which has made things drastically worse. The doctrine of shareholder primacy dictates that a corporation’s only duty is to maximize financial returns for its investors. They don’t care who is affected; they only care about how much profit shareholders can make, even if it means making the lives of affected people worse.

They do not care about the workers whose lives are degraded by stagnant wages and poor conditions. They do not care about future citizens who will inherit a degraded environment and a hollowed-out middle class. Evidence of this is clear in the widening wealth gap: the top 1% now holds more wealth than the entire middle class, a direct result of prioritizing shareholder returns over human well-being.

The Answer is UBI

UBI is the answer. It is a direct war against the upward flow of money. It transforms money from a tool of elite extraction into a foundation of human dignity, ensuring that the benefits of technological and economic progress are shared by all, not just the shareholders at the top.

We must support politicians who will give us UBI. Andrew Yang has made this his life’s mission, understanding deeply that the economy must serve the people, not the other way around. He has the vision, the data, and the courage to push for a system that actually works for the working class.

Any politician who denies UBI is frivolous, out of touch with the realities of the 21st-century economy, and must be rejected by the people. We cannot afford to be fooled anymore. Vote for politicians who support UBI. Vote for UBI. Vote for your future.
